Introduction to Research Data Management (RDM) and Data Management Plans (DMP) Online

This workshop introduces researchers to the fundamental ideas of research data management (RDM). The session will cover the SU RDM regulation, ethical considerations, external funding requirements, and the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) that govern good data management.

Session 1: Introduction to RDM

 The presentation covers:

  • various information resources relating to the management of research data
  • the regulation of Research Data Management at Stellenbosch University
  • how they can access researcher support services relating to Research Data Management
  • various RDM-related technological solutions supported by Stellenbosch University
  • how to conduct research that adheres to the FAIR principles

Session 2:   Data Management Planning

This session will introduce participants to data management planning and the range of available DMP resources and training opportunities.

Outcomes:

Participants will learn:

  • the fundamental aspects of Data Management Planning
  • the structure of Data Management Plans
  • the resources that researchers can use in relation Data Management Planning
  • the RDM Adventure Game, which will teach them about the most important aspects to consider when planning on how to manage their research data
