Open to society: pursuing research impact in a contemporary global context Online

Stellenbosch University Library, one of the foremost open access advocates, invites you to the #BeOpenAccessSmartWebinar series. Since its acceleration in the early 2000s, there has been a growing realisation that open access benefits to research and society are multifaceted. Extending from scholarly impact through the visibility and citation advantage, facilitating the right of access to information and contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Lately, there has been a growing realisation that open access has the potential to enable transdisciplinarity (TD), breaking down barriers between academia, industry, NGOs, and society at large.

Aiming to examine the potential role of open access in facilitating transdisciplinarity (TD) in research, this webinar will be conducted by Dr Heide Hackmann (Chair in Science Futures, Centre for Research on Evaluation Science and Technology). Titled “Open to society: pursuing research impact in a contemporary global context” the session will explore open access and the accessibility of knowledge for societal good, as well as the transformative potential of TD in shaping the future of research and sustainable development
