Open Data Demystified
Anyone conducting research knows that research data is important. This is the case irrespective of whether the research data has to be generated or collected. Recent research trends have shown an emergence of ‘open research data’. Despite its seemingly simple nature, ‘open research data’ is a concept which still needs to be demystified within the research fraternity. This session cuts through the fog that pervades many discussions of ‘open research data’ in order to provide a clear understanding of the concept. The session focuses on addressing the following topics:
- A conceptualisation of open data.
- The difference between data sharing and data dissemination.
- Reasons for making research data open.
- The type of research data which should be made open.
- Preparing research data for openness.
- How to make research data open?
